About this short course
This module delves into the project planning process.
Project planning lays out the roadmap showing how the scope will be achieved within a specified budget and on schedule. When planning a project, the project manager must determine what needs to be done, how it will get done, who will do it, and how long it will take, how much it will cost while also considering the potential risks. As soon as the benefits and costs of the project have been clarified and recorded, the objectives and scope have been outlined, the project team has been assigned, and a proper project office environment has been created, it is time to start with detailed planning to make sure that the actions completed in the execution phase of the project are correctly ordered, staffed, carried out and supervised. Project planning involves relating the strategic objectives, mission, vision, and deliverables of the project. To enable this, there are six steps we can follow.
These steps of the planning process are covered in detail in this module and include:
ONE – Defining the scope of work – this is the blueprint for the project, and it contains a high-level description of all the work that the project will deliver.
TWO – Developing a Work Breakdown Structure – which incorporates an in-depth group of tasks that must be embarked on during the project. It spans a bridge between the initial scope definition, up to creation of a detailed project schedule.
THREE – Identifying Resource Requirements – which includes knowing what resources you’re going to need, and when.
FOUR – Defining and Allocating Work Activities – these are the key activities that will bring about deliverables.
FIVE – Developing a Project Schedule – to help the project manager to manage the project effectively.
AND
SIX – Developing a Project Budget – which is the total amount of authorised financial resources allocated for the particular purpose of the sponsored project
for a specific period.
